Nell Carter
Nell Carter (* September 13, 1948 in Birmingham, Alabama; † January 23, 2003 in Beverly Hills ) was an American actress and singer.
Life
After her schooling Carter began training as an actress and singer. In various theater productions she appeared as an actress. For her role in the musical Is not Misbehavin ', she received the 1978 Tony Award. She also received an Emmy Award in 1982 for her role in the television film version of Is not Misbehavin '. In addition, Carter was seen in the U.S. television in various roles. She was known by embodying the housekeeper Nellie Ruth Harper in the television series Gimme a Break!.
Carter lived with her partner Ann Kaser and her two adopted sons and a daughter in California. On January 23, 2003 Carter died in Beverly Hills.
