Nelsinho Baptista

Nelson Baptista Júnior ( born July 22, 1950 Campinas, SP, Brazil) is usually called short Nelsinho Baptista. In some lists, the former football player and current coach is listed as Nelson.

Even as a player, he was able to celebrate some successes. He has gained importance but primarily as a trainer, where he won, among other championships in his home country and Japan.

Playing career

Nelsinho Baptista began his career at age 17 in 1967 in his hometown of Campinas in the club AA Ponte Preta. From 1971-1977 the winger was one of the main cast of the São Paulo FC with whom he won the 1973 State Championship of São Paulo. Even with the Santos succeeded him after his transfer to the port city in 1978 a success in Paulistão. His playing career he had at the traditional but already in those days no longer particularly important CA Juventus close in São Paulo.

Coaching career

At the age of 35 years Nelsinho Baptista began his coaching career with the EC in Sorocaba Sao Bento in the province of São Paulo. He trained in the following decades many famous Brazilian clubs such as Corinthians, his former club Sao Paulo, the Cruzeiro EC or FC Santos. Longer than two years, however, the well-known as a walking bird Brazilians stayed at any club. With Corinthians he was but in 1990 Brazilian champion.

Even outside of his home country, he worked at several clubs, including at Verdy Kawasaki in Japan, and Al -Hilal in Saudi Arabia. He led Verdy 1994 and 1995 to win the championship in 1994 and also the League Cup. In 1999 he was a guest at the local tip club Colo -Colo in Santiago de Chile. Then he returned to Brazil, and guided the fortunes among others, the great traditional clubs São Paulo FC and Flamengo in Rio at 2003-2005 before he again in Japan, this time at Nagoya Grampus Eight, was active.

In the first division club Corinthians in 2007, he became the fourth coach in the course of the season. But even he could not prevent the descent of the former top clubs in the second Brazilian league and was discharged. In 2008 he succeeded with Sport Recife with a 2-0 success at home after a 1:3 first leg defeat in the finals against his former club Corinthians thanks to the away goals rule, winning the Cup, the Copa do Brasil. In May 2009, he was replaced by his compatriot Émerson Leão as a coach.

Nelsinho Baptista returned a few months later to Japan and took over the coaching job at Kashiwa Reysol. However, the Brazilians could not save from relegation in the J. League Division 2 Japanese first division. In the 2010 season, the team succeeded as souveränder leaders of the immediate resurgence. Quite surprisingly, the team of Nelsinho Baptista prevailed also in the first division and in 2011 champions. Kashiwa Reysol became the first team in Japanese football history that could get after a championship in the second division in the direct connection of the championship in the premier league. In addition, the Association for the FIFA Club World Cup 2011 qualifying.
