The Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University ( NMMU ) is a public university in the Metropolitan Municipality Nelson Mandela Bay in South Africa's Eastern Cape Province. The campus is located in Port Elizabeth.

The NMMU was founded in 2005 and is thus one of the youngest universities in South Africa. As part of the nationwide restructuring in higher education, the University of the amalgamation of the Technical University of Port Elizabeth, founded in 1882, the University of Port Elizabeth, founded in 1964, and the Vista University, founded in 1982, was born.

Organization

The NMMU is headed by a Vice-Chancellor. To manage in addition includes three Deputy Vice-Chancellor, a CFO and CHRO. The Registrar shall be representative and symbolic tasks.

The NMMU has seven campus areas in Port Elizabeth and George, on which the seven faculties are located:

  • Humanities
  • Health Sciences
  • Engineering and Information Technology
  • Economics
  • Education
  • Jurisprudence
  • Natural sciences

The faculties are divided into schools.
