Neuberg Abbey

The pin Neuberg or Neuberger Münster is a former Cistercian monastery ( OCist ) in Neuberg an der Murz in Austria. It has largely preserved its medieval character.

History

The monastery was founded in 1327 by the Habsburg Duke Otto the Joyous occasion of the birth of his son Frederick. As the daughter monastery of Stift Heiligenkreuz it belonged to the filiation of primary Abbey Mori Moon. Since about 1330 was built on the monumental High Gothic hall church, the first under the Emperor Frederick III. Could be completed in 1496. The wooden roof from the first half of the 15th century with more than 1100 cubic meters of larch wood of the largest and most important preserved wooden roof in the German language area. The equipment of the cathedral is dominated by the early Baroque high altar, which was created in 1612.

From the Gothic period the life-size sandstone statue of the Madonna and Neuberger several triptychs are obtained. The cloister of the chapter house has precious reliefs, which are among the most important testimonies of the sculpture of the 14th century in Austria.

After an eventful history the monastery in 1786 by Emperor Joseph II was canceled. The monastery church was the parish church of Neuberg. A tract in the southeast of the monastery complex was rebuilt in 1850 as a hunting castle of Emperor Franz Joseph.

In 1996, the plant for the Styrian Provincial Exhibition has been extensively renovated.

Presence

The end of 2007 gave the Republic of Austria and the Austrian Federal Forests ( OFB ), the properties pin and former imperial hunting lodge several conditions and requirements to the Aigner Immobilien Group. With gradual reorganization of the sprawling pin area, a concept was developed for use so that individual and corporate users to rent space in the premises of the pen. In the pen, the sight glass hut Kaiserhof, a natural science museum, the visit Polzl Museum and various gardens, which opened in 1991 and comes from a private collection. The extension was made by Herbert Schliefsteiner. Courtyard of the Abbey are located in 50 rooms to stay.
