Neuberg an der Murz is a market town with 1284 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the political district of Bruck- Miirzzuschlag Styria. From 1 January 2015 it has joined forces framework of the Styrian municipality structural reform with the communities Altenberg an der Rax, chapels and Miirzsteg, the new community will continue to use the name " Neuberg an der Murz ".

Geography
Neuberg is located at the headwaters of the Murz and at the foot of the snow Alpe northwest of Miirzzuschlag. The municipality has a north-south extension and is intersected in the middle by the river Murz. The area of 64 km ², corresponds to that of San Marino.

History
1327 here by Duke Otto was a Cistercian abbey founded the Gay ( pin Neuberg an der Murz ), which was abolished by Joseph II, in 1786 again. She has kept the only abbey mainly its medieval character. 1379 Neuberger sharing agreement was signed in Neuberg. This law regulated the work breakdown of the Habsburg lands and served as a template for subsequent sharing contracts.
In the time of the steel mills some innovations of Neuberg went out; here was also used for k.k. Produced armaments industry. When, after the Revolution of 1848, the imperial family was not allowed to hunt in the Vienna Woods, the extensive forests to Neuberg, all of which were owned by the state and are, chosen as a new spot for the hunting enthusiast, monarchs were. Emperor Franz Joseph rented in 1852 in the deconsecrated pin and built in 1870, a private hunting lodge in the neighboring municipality Miirzsteg. Capital is the market town of Neuberg an der Murz. From Miirzzuschlag it is located just 9 kilometers north-west. It is located in the center of the township, on the left shore of the Murz at altitudes around 730 m above sea level. A., at the foot of Rabenstein ( 1027 m above sea level. A. ), an old Flussmäanderrest ( Talkuppe ). In the Green Kogel rises (1812 m above sea level. A. ), the south ridge of snow Alps massif. Opposite is the Arzbachhöhe (1012 m above sea level. A. ), a Vorklapf of Hocheck ( 1418 m above sea level. A. ), which belongs to Rosseck group, the eastern sub-group of Veitschalpe.
The village called Village, and includes about 140 buildings with about 320 inhabitants. In addition to the location which also includes the Cistercian Abbey. Originally, the term village comprised just not the pin, but only the secular settlement around it, but Alpl included.
The cadastral Neuberg, one of the cadastral district of the municipality extends far beyond the village area beyond, extending north to the Farfel below the green Kogel, and south to at Hochegg ( 1418 m above sea level. Economy and infrastructure
The 19th century was the heyday of the Neuberger major iron and steel industry. In Neuberg there are three hydropower plants and a heating plant. In the late 1960s to mid-1970s Neuberg resort and hunting ground for the German department store king H. On the Schneealm a para and hang gliders club is located. A beautifully landscaped natural swimming pond completes the list of recreational opportunities from in the summer. In winter you can go skiing / snowboarding, tobogganing on the natural toboggan run, ice skating or make curling, ski trips or cross-country skiing on the many trails. On Niederalpl a chair lift and three ski lifts are available in winter.
Culture lovers can visit the Cistercian Abbey. Also, some museums invite you to visit. The " Neuberger Culture Days " and the " Neuberger Autumn" are among artists and art lovers become an insider tip for high-quality seminars and events. For several years, also the " Neuberger Kabarettfrühling " has established itself as the event tip.
Hubert Holzer operates its renowned restaurant, which is to rank among the top five in Styria and in 2005 was honored with two awards here. In the village there is a Youth Hostel and the very nice spa and health farm Mayrkurhotel Neuberg (since 2010 " Stiftshof "). Due to the restructuring of the house in the style of Friedensreich Hundertwasser, there was a dispute with Hundertwasser.
