Neuhaus (Slovenian: Suha ) is a location in Carinthia in the District Peoples Market bilingual municipality with 1081 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013).

Geographical location

The municipality Neuhaus is located at the extreme east of the Jauntals south of the Drava River. The main town of Neuhaus is situated about 4 km as the crow of the Austrian-Slovenian border.

Neighboring communities

History

Neuhaus ( Newenhavse ) was in 1288 the first mentioned, the district Leifling already in 1154 as Liwuelich and the district Schwabegg as Castrum Swabec 1212. Late 13th century was built by the Earl of Heunburg the Neuhaus Castle.

In 1958, the current community Neuhaus was established through the merger of the previously independent municipalities Leifling and Schwabegg.

Population

According to the 2001 census, the municipality has 1,236 inhabitants Neuhaus, of which 96.9 % 1.0% Austrian and German citizens. 13.2 % belong to the Slovene-speaking minority.

For the Roman Catholic Church to 96.5 % of the community population profess the Protestant Church 1.4%. Without religious beliefs are 1.3%.

Coat of arms

The emblem of the golden Neuhaus Tower alludes to the castle and the present castle Neuhaus, the three golden stars on the Heunburger that led them in their coat of arms and in the southeastern Jauntal had a power of gravity. The Golden Plough refers to agriculture as historically and presently most important economic activity of the municipality.

The official blazon reads: " In the divided shield beseitet the top of a golden blue, black Grooved, dreizinniger tower with black open Rundtor and two embrasures, three gold stars and inflated, down in black a golden plow. "

Coat of arms and flag were presented to the community on June 2, 1980. The flag is blue and yellow with integrated crest.
