Neustrelitz Little Lakes Region

The Neustrelitzer small lakes area is a landscape in the south of the country Mecklenburg -Vorpommern in the region around the city Neustrelitz and in the north of Brandenburg north of Rheinberg. The main towns in the Lake District, in addition to Neustrelitz Mirow, Wesenberg, Fürstenberg / Havel, Rheinberg and Lychen.

The northern part of the lake district is drained by the river Havel, which also has its origin here. About the Prebelowkanal there is a connection to the southern part, the Rheinberger Lakes region, which drains through the Rhin. The lake area was created in the course of the Vistula glaciation about 12,000 years ago in the glacial valleys and Sandern the Pomeranian stage.

For a few years there are efforts by the Wildlife Protection Society of Mecklenburg Strelitz, part of the nature reserve Neustrelitzer small lakes and rudiments of protected areas Müritz Lakes Park and Havel Lakes Kratzeburg source to convert Strelitzer small lakes in a natural park.
