NGC 1851

NGC 1851 is the name of a globular cluster in the constellation Columba. NGC 1851 has a diameter of 11 arc minutes. This bunch, which is only visible from southern Europe or südlicherern latitudes, is one of the few globular clusters in the winter sky. This fact was even more explosive by the discovery of the Canis Major dwarf galaxy in 2003. Exactly as Messier 79 and NGC 2808 seems this cluster has its origin not to have in the Milky Way, but was captured along with that dwarf galaxy.

NGC 1851 was discovered in 1826 by the Scottish astronomer James Dunlop.
