NGC 2770

NGC 2770 is a spiral galaxy of type Sc and is located in the constellation Lynx. It was discovered in 1785 by Friedrich Wilhelm Herschel. The galaxy has an angular extent of about 4 '× 1' and an apparent magnitude of 12.8 mag. Located just west of NGC 2770 ( at α = 9h 9m 19.5 s, δ = 33 ° 7 ' 20 ") is the galaxy pair NGC 2770A ( LEDA 82318, MCG 06-20-036 ) with a visual magnitude of 15.2 like and type S S.

January 9, 2008 Swift satellite observed in NGC 2770 by accident ( he was watching the remnants of the supernova SN 2007uy, which was discovered on 31 December 2007 by Yoji Hirose in the galaxy ), the newly formed supernova SN 2008D. It was recorded by a five-minute burst of X-rays with a total energy of 1039 joules, which is about one hundred-thousandth of the explosion energy of a supernova. Through this discovery, it was possible to observe the supernova in their development and to review the supernova theories. In NGC 2770, the supernova SN 1999eh was observed.
