NGC 2787

NGC 2787 is an SB0 galaxy that is 33 million light-years away from Earth. The typical beam of a barred spiral galaxy can not be seen in NGC 2787 in the visible. At the core of this galaxy, scientists suspect a supermassive black hole. The from the Hubble Space Telescope visible in the image to a dozen white dots are not stars, but globular clusters with hundreds of thousands of stars that are held in place by the gravity of NGC 2787 and circle them.

The galaxy was discovered on December 3, 1788 by the German - British astronomer William Herschel.
