NGC 4314

NGC 4314 is the name of a barred spiral galaxy in the constellation Coma Berenices, which is about 40 million light -years away from Earth. Inside of NGC 4314, there is a ring of about 1000 light years radius from very young, about 5 million year old stars. This is indicated by the blue color on the picture of Hubble. This is rather unusual, since the star formation regions are usually located in the spiral arms. NGC 4314 was discovered on March 13, 1785 by the German - British astronomer William Herschel.
