NGC 4319

NGC 4319 is the name of a galaxy, which is about 80 million light -years away from Earth. In the vicinity of NGC 4319 is the Quasar Markarian 205, a distance of one billion light years, a relatively near quasar.

Although NGC 4319 is removed with its redshift of z = 0.0045 only 80 million light years from Earth, interpret observations indicates a gravitational interaction between the two objects. From these observations, the astronomer Halton Arp U.S. presented in 1971 to the controversial hypothesis that the distances of Markarian 205 and NGC 4319 to the earth are about the same and there must be another reason for the large differences in the redshift.

The galaxy NGC 4319 was discovered on December 10, 1797 by the German - British astronomer William Herschel.
