Nicholas Phillips, Baron Phillips of Worth Matravers

Nicholas Addison Phillips, Baron Phillips of Worth Matravers, KG, PC, QC (born 21 January 1938) is a British lawyer, former President of the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom and Chairman since October 1, 2012 Judge of the International Court of Qatar 2000 to 2005 he was Master of the Rolls, and from 2005 to October 1, 2008 Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales.

Training

His school education was given at the Phillips Bryanston School where he is active in the Association of Former until today. This is followed joined the 1956-1958 military service in the Royal Navy at, from which he retired as an officer. He studied law, he graduated from King's College London and was awarded the 1962 admission as a barrister at the Middle Temple. In 1973, he joined the civil service and worked as Junior Counsel at the Department of Defense, where he mainly dealt with maritime law issues. In 1978 he was appointed Queen 's Counsel Elizabeth II.

Activity as a judge

His work as Judge Phillips began in 1982 as a district judge before he was appointed as a judge of the Queen's Bench Division in 1987, coupled with the elevation to the knighthood. In addition to her job, Phillips engaged in the training of young lawyers and was from 1992 to 1997 Chairman of the Council of Legal Education ( CLE). In 1995 he was appointed Lord Justice of Appeal and has been a member of the Privy Council and, since 1998, the House of Lords as Baron Phillips of Worth Matravers. On 1 October 2000 he was Baron Woolf claimed as Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales. He held until the takeover of the Presidency of the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom on 1 October 2009 this office. On September 30, 2012, he appeared as a judge on the UK Supreme Court in retirement and took over the office of the presiding judge at the International Court in Doha Qatar.

Family

Phillips is married to Marie- Thérèse Christylle Rouffiac, with whom he has two daughters. In addition, his wife gave birth to a son and a daughter in marriage. The couple lives in Hampstead.
