Nick Whitehead

Nick Whitehead (actually Joseph Nicholas Neville Whitehead, * May 29, 1933 in Brymbo, Denbighshire, † October 6, 2002 in Newport, Pembrokeshire ) was a British sprinter.

At the Olympic Games in Rome in 1960, he won the bronze medal in the 4 x 100 meters relay with the British team in the occupation of Peter Radford, David Jones, David Segal and Whitehead.

In 1962 at the British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Perth, the bronze medal with the Welsh team in the 4 x 110 yards relay.

Three times he was the Welsh champion in the 100 and 220 yards.

After his playing career, he worked for football and rugby teams as a lecturer in sports science and training consultant. In 1978 he became team manager of the British athletics team, 1983 first director of the National Coaching Foundation and finally deputy director of the Sports Council for Wales. In 1984, he was honored for his contributions to the sport with the OBE.
