David Segal (athlete)

David Hugh Segal ( born March 20, 1937 in London) is a former British sprinter. The two -time Olympian was beside each a medal with the British or British sprint relay at the Olympic Games, Commonwealth Games and European Athletics Championships Tenenbaum 1958 Vice European champion over 200 m.

Segal took in Melbourne in 1956 to his first Olympics in part; both about 100 m, 200 m as he already retired from the lead, with the British 4 x 100 m relay, he reached the finals, they missed the fifth, however, the medal ranks.

In 1958 he went to England at the British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Cardiff; over 100 yards and 220 yards, he missed the finals again, with the relay ( Segal, Roy Sandstrom, Peter Radford and Adrian Breaker ), however, he won the title. A few weeks later, he won the European Championship in Stockholm, his only individual medal at a major event: Silver 200m, silver, he also won the British sprint relay (Peter Radford, Roy Sandstrom, Segal, Adrian Breacker ).

1958 and 1959 Segal was also British champion and 1960 British runners over 220 yards.

The end of 1959 promoted the American Furman University via an advertisement in the Daily Mirror with scholarships to British sprint talents, Segal showed interest and not enrolled in the winter of 1960, despite the threat of the British Association of him for the Olympic Games in Rome to nominate one. Despite threats Segal nevertheless took part in the Olympic Games in Rome, about 200 meters he was disqualified in the semifinals, with the sprint relay (Peter Radford, David Jones, Segal and Nick Whitehead ), he was third.

After the games Segal (1961-1963) came very successful for Furman in the sprint and hurdles, 2008, he has been included in the Furman University Athletics Hall of Fame.
