Nick Willis

Nick Willis, MNZM (actually: Nicholas Ian Willis, born April 25, 1983 in Lower Hutt ) is a New Zealand middle distance runner who starts mainly on the 1500 meter course.

At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens and the 2005 World Championships in Helsinki, he left in the semifinals, then celebrated but in 2006 his first major success when he won the gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne.

A tenth place finish at the 2007 World Championships in Osaka followed the second major triumph at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. Here he came in 3:34,16 min after Rashid Ramzi ( BRN) and Asbel Kiprop (KEN ) to the finish. Since Ramzi was, however, tested positive in retrospect to the EPO derivative Mircera, he moved after the silver medal.

Nick Willis is 1.83 meters tall and weighs 68.5 kg. After studying at the University of Michigan, he settled permanently in Ann Arbor. He starts for the sporting goods company Reebok and is coached by Ron Warhurst. Since the autumn of 2007, he is married.
