Asbel Kiprop

Asbel Kiprop (also: Asbel Kipruto Kiprop, born 30 June 1989 Kaptinga in Eldoret ) is a Kenyan middle and long distance runners.

Discovered in 2006 by Martin Keino, the son of the famous Kipchoge Keino, Kip Keino, he trained in the High Performance Training Centre in Eldoret. Although he is actually track runner, he was persuaded by his trainer Jimmy Beauttah to participate in cross races, and surprisingly won the Junior race (8 km ) of the World Cross Country Championships 2007.

In the summer, he won the 1,500 meter race of the Pan-African Games in 2007, and at the World Championships in Osaka, he was fourth over the same distance. In 2008 he won at the African Championships bronze over 800 m and finished fourth over 1500 meters.

He celebrated his biggest success at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing when he was Olympic champion in the 1500 meter race. He came behind the Bahraini Rashid Ramzi to the finish, but Ramzi was tested in April 2009 as part of a follow- positive for the EPO derivative Mircera and in November 2009 Kiprop was subsequently awarded the gold medal.

At the World Athletics Championships in Berlin in 2009 he finished fourth in the 1500 meter race. In the 800 -meter run, he left in the semifinal round. At the Track - Africa Championships in Nairobi in 2010, he won over 1500 meters. At the World Athletics Championships 2011 in Daegu he won ahead of his compatriot Silas Kiplagat and American Matthew Centro joke in a time of 3:35,69 min the gold medal.

In London he wanted to repeat his 2008 success at the 2012 Olympic Games. However Kiprop was in the final with no chance and took only the last place. At the World Athletics Championships 2013 in Moscow, he successfully defended his title in 2011 in a time of 3:36,28 min.

Asbel Kiprop is 1,88 m tall and weighs 62 kg. His father David Kebenei 1987 fourth over 1500 meters at the Pan-African Games.
