Heusden -Zolder ( Limburg: Heuze -Zolder ) is a municipality in Belgium, Limburg province. Their total area is 53.2 km ². It has 32,003 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2012).

The municipality includes the villages of Heusden Zolder, Bolderberg, Boekt, Berkenbos, Lindeman, Eversel.

Location and economic

The community is located 12 km north of Hasselt in the Kempen region at the local coal basin. Coal is no longer being mined. The motorway from Brussels to Aachen runs through the community.

Tourism is an important economic factor dar. Furthermore settled many small commercial and industrial establishments in Heusden -Zolder.

Attractions

In the southwest of the community, the Terlaemen castle, there is the four -kilometer race circuit of Zolder (see Zolder ). Also motorcycle races are held here regularly. The world championship in cycling road race took place in 2002 here.

The community is rich in forest and heathland. Here long walks.

There are in Heusden-Zolder some old churches and many often well-located chapels. Most locks here are private domains and not publicly available. This also applies to the associated parks.

Twinning

Heusden -Zolder is twinned town of Brilon, Sauerland and the North Hessian town of Bad Arolsen.
