Nicolás Ruiz Espadero

Nicolás Ruiz Espadero (* February 15, 1832 in Havana, † August 30, 1890 ) was a Cuban pianist and composer.

Espadero was a pupil of the pianist Fernando Arizti and the pianist and composer Julian Fontana. He was considered the greatest pianist and composer of Cuba in the 19th century and came into Cuba and South America as a concert pianist and accompanist.

He composed a brilliant Rondó for String Quartet, El canto del esclavo for violin and piano, two piano sonatas and a Capriccio for piano, a Serenata cubana for voice and piano and other piano pieces, including many Danzas. In his works, he attacked on subjects of Cuban folk music.
