Nielsen Online

Nielsen NetRatings is a web tracking service ( online panel ) of the media and information group The Nielsen Company, returning surveys to the audience to advertisers and to two activities in the network on a global basis and around 90 % of worldwide online activities measures in about 30 countries.

Nielsen NetRatings is used as a planning and control tool for the use of internet sites. The online panel was originally a joint service by the market research company ACNielsen and the technology company NetRatings Inc. The joint venture was called ACNielsen eRating.com and entered to compete:

ACNielsen and Nielsen Media Research were both originally part founded by Arthur C. Nielsen company, but in 1996 as two separate companies were as a result of restructuring its subsequent parent company Dun & Bradstreet spun off. In October 1999, Nielsen Media Research was acquired by VNU. Through the acquisition of Nielsen Media Research, VNU was the same majority owner of NetRatings Inc.

Following the acquisition of ACNielsen by the VNU Group was established in May 2002, specializing in the Internet U.S. advertising statistics service NetRatings Inc., by then already involved with 19.9% ​​, wholly owns ACNielsen eRatings.com after the remaining, were taken at ACNielsen underlying equity shares for 9.6 million U.S. dollars. After the takeover of rival NetValue in 2002, Nielsen NetRatings was the only supplier and there was a monopoly in the online audience measurement. This is now no longer the basis of competitors such as comScore.
