Nigel Williams (author)

Nigel Williams ( born January 20, 1948 in Cheadle, Cheshire, United Kingdom ) is a British writer, who works for radio and television. He is also the author of several novels, children's books and plays.

Life

Nigel Williams was born the son of a school principal. After studying at the Highgate School and Oriel College, Oxford University, he worked at Oriel College as a lecturer. With a piece of enemy classes (Class Enemy ), which was selected in England 's most important play of the year 1978, it achieved a breakthrough as a playwright. The premiere was on 9 March 1978 from the Royal Court Theatre, London. The German premiere took place on 23 April 1981 at the stage at the Hall Ufer in Berlin, directed by Peter Stein.

In 1994 he won one of the most important British television awards for his television adaptation of William Horwood Skallagrigg with the BAFTA. His most successful work was the English TV play Elizabeth I, for which he was nominated for an Emmy Award. His first novel My Life Closed Twice won in 1974 the Somerset Maugham Award.

The repertoire of many theater companies especially his dramatization of the novel by William Golding, Lord of the Flies (Lord of the Flies, UA: July 31, 1995 Royal Shakespeare Company at The Other Place, Stratford -upon -Avon; DSE: 23 January 1999 Rhineland theater Neuss ).

Only a very manageable part of the work of Nigel Williams has been translated into German and will be published in Germany.

Nigel Williams is married and father of three sons. He is living in Putney, southwest London.
