Nils Petter Molvær

Nils Petter Molvaer ( born September 18, 1960 in Langevåg on the island of Sula, Norway) is a Norwegian jazz trumpeter and music producer.

Life

Molvær was born on the Norwegian west coast of the small island of Sula. Among his musical role models include Miles Davis, Don Cherry, Billie Holiday, Brian Eno, Jon Hassell, Joni Mitchell and Bill Laswell. He is considered a pioneer the fusion of jazz and electronic music.

Earlier in his career he played in the directed by Jon Balke formation Oslo 13 A wide audience it was his debut album Khmer ( in 1997 at the Munich label ECM appeared ) known to be essential to the Molvær game and its feverish, raucous trumpet massive electronic beats faces. Khmer received much attention and critical acclaim; so Molvær got, for example, the price of the German Record Critics' Award and the American newspaper LA Weekly proclaimed Khmer jazz album of the year 1998.

There followed in 2000 the album Solid Ether and the following year the pure remix album Recoloured, participated in the various guest musicians and DJs, including Bill Laswell and radio interference. In 2002, the album NP3 and in the summer of 2004 Streamer has been published. Streamer appeared on Molvaer's own newly founded label Sula. 2005 Molvær then brought with ER another studio album out on the next to him, especially the singers Sidsel Endresen and Elin Rosseland, but also guitarist Eivind Aarset and pianist Magne Furuholmen (formerly a- ha) put material accents.

He has also written the music for the German film Stratosphere Girl MX Oberg.
