Noble House is the title of an American television miniseries from 1988 with Pierce Brosnan in the lead role. James Clavell served as template 1981 published novel Noble House Hongkong. The venue is the then still under British administration of Hong Kong. Sideshow is Macau. It is named after the second shogun film adaptation of a work by James Clavell by the U.S. television network NBC.

Content

Ian Dunross is chairman of Struan & Co, the oldest and largest retail store in Hong Kong. The Chinese therefore also refer to it as " Tai - Pan " of the Noble House. The trading firm gets into a financial trouble, prompting Dunross requesting financial support for the American investor Linc Bartlett, who, however, with the greatest competitors of Struan & Co., Quillan Gornt, is in talks and tried even to power in Noble House gain. Help Dunross receives from the Chinese mainland and the Bartlett's assistant, Casey Tcholok. This leads to numerous intrigues.

Differences from the original novel

While the original novel in Hong Kong plays the early 60s, the plot in the miniseries was relocated to the former presence of the late 80s. Many subplots of the novel were not included due to time constraints in the miniseries.

Noble House in 1988 nominated for an Emmy in 1989 for the ASC Award.

TV broadcasting

In Germany, Noble House was first broadcast by ZDF on 26 December 1988. Later followed other broadcasts in the public program. In recent years, the television series Premiere, Anixe HD and tele was seen 5.

DVD Release

After a long time only DVD versions have been released for the North American and Australian markets, is such a available in Germany since 17 April 2009.
