Noel Loban

Noel Loban ( born April 28, 1957 in Wimbledon / England) is an English former wrestler.

Career

Noel Loban was born in Wimbledon, the son of immigrant parents from the West Indies. Shortly after his birth he moved with his parents to Long Iceland, New York, where Noel Loban grew up. He attended the High School and then two years the State University of Farmingdale and then from 1977 to 1980 the Glemson University in New York. With the rings Noel Loban had already started in high school, which he continued at the universities. 1977 won the NCAA ( = American University Sports Federation ) Junior Championship in freestyle wrestling and 1980 was the NCAA champion in the United States in the light heavyweight division.

In the following years, Noel Loban started as a British citizen in several international championships for this country. The greatest success he achieved it, was winning the bronze medal at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. He scored there for five victories and won, among others but also about the German master Bodo Lukowski from Witten, missed by a defeat against the Japanese Akira Ohta a place in the final.

1988 Noel Loban achieved by winning the European vice-champion title in Manchester another big success. He made it even multiple World and European champion Uwe Neupert from the GDR behind him, but did not get past the Soviet athletes Leri Chabelow. At the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul Noel praise could not place it in the front of the field. He had to settle for 7th place.

Noel Loban also won twice, in 1986 and 1994, the Ringer tournament at the Commonwealth Games and once, in 1977, the tournament at the Commonwealth Championships.

Noel Loban was also in the Federal Republic of Germany is very well known as a wrestler because for years he struggled there in the Bundesliga for the KSV meadow valley.

After the end of his career Ringer Noel Loban went back to the United States. He has since been working as a wrestler and coach sports instructor. Since 2006 he lives in Raleigh / North Carolina, where it operates a "Combat Sports Academy ."
