Career

Macharbek Chadarzew grew up in Suadag. As a teenager, he began to struggle and went to his older brother Aslan four to five times a week by bus to workout in the 40 km distant Vladikavkaz. He became a member of SKA Vladikavkaz and students of the coach Kazbek Dedikajew. He wrestled exclusively in free style and launched the age of 18 in 1982 for the first time at an international championship, namely the Junior World Championships in Colorado Springs. There he became Junior World Champion in the weight category to 81 kg body weight. In the years 1983 and 1984 he won more world titles at junior level. In 1986, he was the first time Soviet champion in the light heavyweight division and was first used in the seniors at an international championship, namely the World Championships in Budapest. He fulfilled the fully up to expectations and won with a victory in the final battle over Torsten Wagner from the GDR his first world title at the senior citizens.

In 1987 he was European champion in Veliko Tarnovo and in Clermont -Ferrand also world champion. In Veliko Tarnovo he had so far lucky that the judge overlooked a perfect shoulder Chadarzews defeat in the fight against Bodo Lukowski from the FRG. They overlooked, probably because they did not believe it possible. At the World Championships in Clermont- Ferrand, he won the title by a bloodless victory in the final, because the American James Scherr could not compete against him because of an injury.

Also in 1988 won Chadarzew two titles. In the spring he was to win in Manchester European champion and in autumn in Seoul and Olympic champion in the light heavyweight division, where he had there little problems before two Asian wrestlers the gold medal.

In the years 1989 and 1990 Chadarzew was only at the World Championships at the start and won his third and fourth world title. In 1989 he won against James Scherr in the final battle, against whom he had to fight this time, in the final with 3-0 points and in 1990 he defeated in the final battle with Chris Campbell another Americans 1-0 on points.

Even in the years 1991 and 1992 Chadarzew again celebrated four hits. He has been in two years, European champion, 1991 World Champion and 1992 Barcelona Olympic champion for the second time, in each case in the light heavyweight division. At the European Championships in 1991 in Stuttgart, he was superior to its competitors hands down and won the title without having to give a point. At the World Championships the same year, however, he needed outside help to win the title, as he had quite surprisingly lost to Chris Campbell. Campbell but then lost to the Cuban Roberto Limontas and had to retire prematurely. Chadarzew needed five wins to Olympic victory in Barcelona, scoring a point in his favor ratio of 25:2. Chris Campbell, he made this time from 7-0 points.

After his second Olympic gold medal in 1992 sat Chadarzew his career continued. But he had to realize soon that the competition would not make it easy for him. He won in the following seven international championships, he still denied only a title of European Champion 1995 in Fribourg, Switzerland. Especially the Iranian wrestler Rasul Khadem Azghali was the one who defeated him several times and referred to the courts. So he lost this wrestler also in the final of the Olympic Games in Atlanta in 1996 and won thus "only" the silver medal.

After these Olympics Macharbek Chadarzew finished his so extraordinarily successful career as an active wrestler, but dared in 2000 at the age of 35 years, starting this time for Uzbekistan, a comeback at the Olympic Games in Sydney, where he won but only the 14th place because he lost already in the 1st round of the middle weight, in which he had abtrainiert, against the Koreans Yang Myung -Mo with 2:3 points.
