Nogent-sur-Seine

Nogent -sur -Seine is a commune with 6028 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Aube department in the Champagne- Ardenne region; it is the administrative center for the district of Nogent -sur -Seine and the canton of Nogent -sur -Seine.

Geography

Nogent is situated on the Seine, which is up here navigable, and on the road from Provins by Romilly- sur -Seine. About two kilometers upstream is the nuclear power plant in Nogent.

History

Nogent -sur -Seine was already in Gallo- Roman times. From the 12th century the city belonged to the county of Champagne. It was destroyed in 1442 and 1814 respectively by fire.

Nogent is also known as the site of a battle between the armies of Napoleon and Württemberg during the campaign of 1814.
