Nordheim is a village in the southern district Schmalkalden- Meiningen in Thuringia. Since 1 December 2007, the formerly politically autonomous village is a village in the municipality grave field.

Geography

The municipality is located in southern Thuringia grave field.

History

For the first time the church was mentioned in the year 774. Nordheim protected himself with a wall and moat around the whole village. Three gatehouses granted access. In addition, there was a castle and a fortified church. Set in the middle of the village castle was predecessor of the later water castle. Since 1360, the Lords of stone, there is documentary evidence as masters of the place. They built on the imperial knights to a kingdom until 1803 relatively small autonomous rule.

In 1808 the Duchy of Saxe-Meiningen and the Grand Duchy of Würzburg agreed on a land swap: the Saxon feudal Filke, Neustädtles, Sands, Völkershausen and Willmars came to Würzburg, Würzburg fief Berkach, DC Proven and Nordheim / grave field went as the mixed fief Bibra and Walldorf to Saxe-Meiningen. Nordheim belonged to the Official Maßfeld since in the duchy of Saxe-Meiningen.

Since 1920, the city is part of the Free State of Thuringia. In 1945, the water tower and parts of the local attachment were destroyed.

Last honorary mayor prior to the incorporation was elected in 2004, Veronika Anding. After she resigned May 1, 2007, exercised the non-party Gita Weyhrauch as representative from the office until the annexation on 1 December 2007.
