Geography

Behrungen lies in the valley of the brook Bahra on the edge of the Thuringian Forest in the grave field.

History

8th - 16th century

For the first time the town was mentioned under the name of Villa Pahringe in the year 795. In the 13th century the village belonged to the county of Henneberg. In the hen Bergische main division he came in 1274 as the neighboring Hendungen to the line Henneberg - Aschach, which in the neighboring Römhild later as " Henneberg - Römhild " referred to himself after laying of the headquarters.

Through two divisions of inheritance of the county of Henneberg - Aschach ( - Römhild ) in the years 1468 and 1532 Behrungen got to the line Henneberg - Schwarza. After they died Behrungen belonged since 1549 to the Counts of Henneberg - Schleusingen. As this also became extinct in 1583, came the " Winery Behrungen " as the county was named for the place as part of the county of Henneberg - Schleusingen according to the Kahlaer Treaty of 1554 Community management of the Ernestine and Albertine Wettin.

16th - 19th century

In the real division of the county of Henneberg in 1660, the winery Behrungen came to the Duchy of Saxe-Altenburg. This was divided in 1680, which Behrungen came to the Duchy of Saxony- Römhild. 20th Century to the Present

Culture and sights

Is the German - German Open Air Museum, which extends beyond the designated memorial places of open-air museum Behrungen and Berkach in Thuringia and Rappershausen in Bavaria at the nearby former inner-German border.
