Nordkalottruta

Nordkalottleden ( Swedish, Norwegian Nordkalottruta; Finnish Kalottireitti ) is a hiking trail through the far north of Scandinavia. He performs the countries Finland ( 70 km ), Sweden ( 350 km ) and Norway ( 380 km ).

The Nordkalottleden is a total of 800 miles long and crosses international borders 15 times. The trail begins in the north in Kautokeino (Norway ), via the Treriksröset, the tri-border region of Finland, Norway, Sweden, and ends in the south in Sulitjelma (Norway ) and Kvikkjokk (Sweden).

In 1977 began to plan a hiking trail in the north. Existing roads were included in part and supplemented by new routes. Included were parts of the Padjelantaleden and the King's Trail, the Norwegian Nordland and the old border path of Troms. These plans were completed in 1989 and 1993, the Nordkalottleden at the point where Treriksröset was opened.

The road touches the Øvre Dividal National Park, the Reisa National Park, the National Park Abisko National Park Padjelanta and the regions of Sulitjelmafjell and Narvikfjell. In the sections of the newly created route is signposted partly not well recognized and thin. Nordkalottleden is marked with cairns and signs, but since they are distributed fairly sparse, so a good map is essential. Often the path is also flooded, especially at the beginning of the summer, making detours from the original route necessary. In some places, the rivers have to be crossed, because bridges partially missing. In most sections there are refuges and overnight accommodations at a distance of 10-20 kilometers. The cabins are mostly equipped with cooking facilities, beds, and firewood. For the overnight stay in the huts is usually requires a fee. It is expected that all hikers refer to the everyman and generally deal gently with the environment and nature.
