Norman Whiteside

Norman Whiteside ( born May 7, 1965 in Belfast ) is a former Northern Irish football player.

Playing career

Manchester United (1982-1989)

Norman Whiteside debuted on 24 April 1982 to 16 years for Manchester United. In the League Cup final in 1983, the 17- year-old opened the scoring for his team, but lost the final with 1:2 after extra time against Liverpool. Two months later, he won with his team the FA Cup in 1982/83 and scored the decisive replay also a hit ( 2-2 aet and 4-0 against Brighton & Hove Albion ). In Europe Cup Winners' Cup 1983/84 United moved into the semi-finals, failed there but with 1:1 and 1:2 at Juventus. Another success came Whiteside in the FA Cup in 1984/85 when he scored the only goal for his team in the final against Everton in the 110th minute. His best league placing it reached in the Football League First Division 1987/88 by winning the runner-up behind Liverpool.

Everton FC (1989-1991)

In 1989 he moved to Everton and scored in the 1989/90 season with nine goals in seven league games. After just two games in 1990/91 Norman Whiteside had to end in 1991 with only 26 years of his career due to a knee injury.

Nordirirsche national team (1982-1989)

In 1982 he participated at all in a soccer World Cup at the World Cup in Spain at the age of 17 years and 42 days, and thus became the youngest player. It was followed by the World Cup finals in Mexico in 1986.
