North American Touring Car Championship

The North American Touring Car Championship, NATCC short, was a co - production of the SCCA ( Sports Car Club of America ) and the owners of the IndyCar Series. In this series occurred in 1996 and 1997, the car of Dodge Stratus, Toyota Carina (1997: Toyota Camry ), BMW 318i ( 1997: BMW 320i ), Honda Accord, Ford Mondeo, Pontiac Sunfire (all 1996 and 1997), Vauxhall Cavalier, Mercedes 190 (both only in 1996 ) and Mazda Xedos 6 (1997 ) to after the Super touring Car FIA regulations.

Two races were run per race weekend. In the 1996 season they drove at Lime Rock Park, Detroit, Portland, Toronto, Trois Rivieres, Mid Ohio, Vancouver and at the Laguna Seca Raceway.

In the 1997 season the NATCC drove in Long Beach, Savannah, Detroit, Portland, Cleveland, Toronto, Mid Ohio, Vancouver and at the Laguna Seca Raceway.

In the two years you went often as support to the Indy Car Series and thus increased spectator interest. In addition, manufacturers such as Audi considered an introduction to the NATCC. After the end of the 1997 season the withdrawal of the only factory team, Chrysler ( Dodge ), the series brought down.
