North East MRT Line

The North East Line (English North East Line, Chinese东北 线) was the third MRT line in Singapore. The line currently has 15 stations, is 20 km long and is operated by SBS Transit. The line color is purple.

The line connects the northeastern part of the island with the center. The line is completely run underground and is operated automatically and without drivers. There is to transfer to the North-South line in Dhoby Ghaut and to the east- west line in Outram Park.

On the route trains from Alstom Metropolis C751A type who drive as a six- car formation. For maintenance and repair depot Sengkang is responsible.

The White Elephant

Critics call the line as white elephants, and therefore as something prestigious, but little useful. They lead to the particular, despite the omission of the driver higher fares and the remaining under the expectation ridership ( 170.000/Tag 2003), the result that the line is a losing. The contrary is held by the proponents that it is the North -East line is a technical breakthrough that will provide the world-class traffic engineering from Singapore to the test.
