Nový Život

Nový Život (Hungarian Illésháza ) is the name of a municipality in southwestern Slovakia, with 2203 inhabitants ( 31 December 2011). It is located in Okres Dunajská Streda, which is a part of the larger administrative unit Trnavský kraj.

Geography

The municipality is situated on the Great Rye Island (part of the Slovak Danube lowland ), a river island between the Danube and the Little Danube, which flows immediately north and east of the community and a lot of meanders. Nový Život is 25 kilometers from Dunajská Streda and 33 kilometers from the capital Bratislava.

History

The church today ( literally means " New Life " ) in 1960 resulted from the merger of the following four locations:

  • Eliášovce (Hungarian and Slovak Illésháza to 1948, first mentioned in 1238 )
  • Maly Mager ( small German village stomach, Hungarian Kismagyar, first mentioned in 1298, since 1940 part of Tonkovce and today no longer part of municipality )
  • Tonkovce (Hungarian and Slovak Tonkháza to 1948, first mentioned in 1308)
  • Vojtechovce (Hungarian and Slovak Bélvata to 1948, first mentioned in 1239 )

Significant gender that prevailed in the past in these places, were Illésházy, Szerhásházy, Palffy, Salamon and Olgyay.

All four places that were in the county Pressburg, belonged to 1918/1919 the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia. On the basis of the First Vienna Award 1938-1945 they belonged again to Hungary.

Important historical buildings of the community are the gothic Built in the 15th century, in the 18th century classicist repaired Peter and Paul Church ( part of municipality Eliášovce ) and a Baroque country palace with a park from the beginning of the 18th century ( part of municipality Tonkovce ).

Population

The community is predominantly Hungarian-, which can be detected also in the 2001 census: 2,048 inhabitants were 85.25 % Hungarians, 11.82 % and 2.44 % Slovaks Gypsies. After Confession, the Roman Catholic Church dominated with 93.21 %.
