Obermaiselstein
Obermaiselstein is a municipality in the Swabian district of Upper Allgäu region. The town is a member of the administrative community horns Group, headquartered in Fischen and member of the German - Austrian joint project Nagelfluhkette National Park.

Geography
The main town Obermaiselstein is on 849 m height ( Church Square ). The highest elevations are the Riedbergerhorn 1780 meters and 1680 meters Besler. The lowest points are in Talholz and am Ried stream below the hole Leite. About 60 percent of the municipal area of 2500 hectares is alp or forestry use. Right through the Alps to the Black Mountain, is at the southwestern end of the Besler with the Schafstein the conclusion draws.
Two high valleys north and south of this mountain train shape the community. Both valleys, Gutswieser valley to the south, and the Schönberger -Ach Valley in the north, rising from east to west and slope down to the west side facing the Balderschwanger valley. The community Obermaiselstein consists of four districts Haubenegg, Oberdorf, low- village and Ried.
The district of Ried
Ried was probably founded in the 17th century by farmers who came from the Lech valley of the Alps, in Lochbachtal. At that time the farmers drove their cattle through the summer from the Lochbachtal out. In 1700 moved the whole village to the present location. These houses were successively degraded in Lochbachtal and rebuilt at the new site. After moving the cattle were driven over the summer to Lochbachtal, there to take advantage of the mountain meadows.
History
The name of the village was changed in 1865 from Untermaiselstein officially Obermaiselstein.
Attractions
The resulting approximately 2 million years ago Sturmannshöhle was from 1904 to 1906 made available by the newly formed cave Bauverein to the public. Today it is around 50,000 visitors each year one of the most popular natural attractions of the region. Furthermore, the highest motorable pass in Germany by car lies in the district Obermaiselstein, the Riedbergpass 1442 m.
