The lowest points are in Talholz and am Ried stream below the hole Leite. About 60 percent of the municipal area of 2500 hectares is alp or forestry use. Right through the Alps to the Black Mountain, is at the southwestern end of the Besler with the Schafstein the conclusion draws.

Two high valleys north and south of this mountain train shape the community. Both valleys, Gutswieser valley to the south, and the Schönberger -Ach Valley in the north, rising from east to west and slope down to the west side facing the Balderschwanger valley. The vertices have in both cases a height of about 1359 m and form the watershed between the Rhine and the Danube. At watercourses to the east is to call the Schoenberger Oh, the springs at the top and flows Hornle hamlet in the Iller. In heavy rain the creek often leads floods and has been done evil devastation. The Lochbach rises in the environs of Freiburg and Simons Alpe. He turns after he makes some beautiful, little-known potholes in the hole meadows to the south, flows through Tiefenbach and ends at Weidach in the Breitach that comes out of the valley, and thus in the Iller.

An impressive spectacle The case of Bach, whose floods gather in persistent rain on the rugged plateau of the Black Mountain. He then meets the Sturmannshöhle with its noise and eventually crashes in a mighty arc from the rock face. In the meadows Rieder he meets with the Ried stream that comes from Hirschsprung, digs through the hole Leite and appears in Langenwang than the Rotfisch (also called Grundbach ) in Illertal. His wealth of fish -founded the name Fiskingung, later fish. Also, this water flows near the hamlet in the Iller.

From the hamlet of Haubenegg down Goldbach, the south of Obermaiselstein winds along and then empties into the Ried stream flows. It is said that the use of this water body is likely to have particularly served the flat treatment, so that the little brook the nickname, gold got ' settled.

To the west the Hörnleach that combines the Anger with the Achbach from the Alpe Dinijörgen and the shy creek flows. From here it is called Bolgenach and flows to Lake Constance. This water was formerly often used for wood pastures.

The settlements west of the Iller ( Obermaiselstein, Bolsterlang, Kierwang, Ofterschwang ) are also under the old term Oberpfärling (from upper parish '), the inhabitants are accordingly called Oberpfärglingar.

These houses were successively degraded in Lochbachtal and rebuilt at the new site. After moving the cattle were driven over the summer to Lochbachtal, there to take advantage of the mountain meadows.

History

The name of the village was changed in 1865 from Untermaiselstein officially Obermaiselstein.
