The Ochnaceae, German rarely also called bone -leaved plants or nail berry plants, are a family in the order of Malpighienartigen ( Malpighiales ) within the angiosperms ( Magnoliopsida ). The botanical name is derived from the Greek word for wild pear óchne ago. They have their areas in the subtropics to tropics in many parts of the world.

Description

In this family, there are also some trees that collect through cistern -like spreading branches / leaves organic material (English " Trash Basket Tree's "). Examples are nail berries ( Ochna ) and Campylospermum. The alternate, stalked foliage leaves are usually simple, rarely composed. The veins can be seen particularly clearly in most species. The leaf margins are smooth, toothed or serrated. There are Stipules present.

The inflorescences can be constructed quite differently. The hermaphrodite, radial symmetry flowers are often fünfzählig ( three to zehnzählig ). Most numerous stamens or rare only five or ten. Most five to ten (rarely one or two or even 15) carpels are free or fused into one ( syncarp ) ovary.
