Ochsenkopf (Rittersgrün)

View from the ox-head in the direction Spiegelwald

Ox head is the name of a 836 m high mountain in Rittersgruen in the Saxon Erzgebirge District.

The mountain east of Breitenbrunner hamlet can be reached via the Hammerberg said driveway. As the crow flies the last piece to the top of the 1903/ 04 established restaurant Waldburg is walkable. On its summit there are several rocks of bright mica schist. From the highest point, at which a resting place has been created, provides reason to dense forest no view. However, different, something deeper viewpoints allow good panoramic views over the Pöhlwassertal. On the horizon, the mountain heights between Auersberg and Morgenleithe can be seen.

At the edge of the forest below the ox- head is the built in 1940 waterworks Rittersgruen. Here is a nearly 15 -kilometer-long trail begins by Christian Lehmann as " high forests " designated area on the road to Altpöhlaer Fichtelbergbahn.
