Oconto is a city and administrative headquarters of Oconto County in the northeast of the U.S. state of Wisconsin. With 4,513 inhabitants ( as of 2010) is the largest city in Oconto County.

Geography

Oconto is located at 44 ° 53 'north latitude and 87 ° 52 ' west longitude, covers 19.1 km ² ( 17.8 km ² of it land area) at an altitude of 179 meters above the sea level. The town lies at the mouth of the Oconto River in the Bay of Green Bay in Lake Michigan.

In the city center of the West coming to town Wisconsin Highway 22 opens on leading in a north-south direction through the city of U.S. Highway 41, the ring road of the city is also part of U.S. Highway 41

The city is connected to the network of the Canadian National.

The Austin Straubel International Airport is located 50 kilometers west of the city.

The nearest large towns are Marinette (about 35 km north-east ), Sturgeon Bay (about 50 km to the east on the opposite bank of the Green Bay ) and Green Bay (about 50 km south). Madison, the capital of the state is located about 260 km south-west and Chicago, the nearest big city, about 360 km south.

Demographic data

In the census of 2000 a population of 4708 was determined. These distributed to 1870 households in 1221 families. The population density was 263.8 inhabitants per square kilometer. There were 2040 residential buildings, which corresponded to a housing density of 114.3 per square kilometer buildings.

The population was in 2000 from 97.8 percent White, 0.8 percent Indians, 0.2 percent Asian and 0.3 percent other. 0.9 percent said to be descended from at least two of these groups. 0.8 percent of the population consisted of Hispanics who belonged to the various of the aforementioned groups.

25.8 percent were under 18 years, 8.7 percent between 18 to 24, 27.9 percent of 25-44, 20.9 percent from 45 to 64 and 16.7 percent 65 and older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females were statistically 92.2 men in the over 18 -year-olds 89.0.
