Occupation

Odyssey is the fourth and most successful and most commercial album ( number 40 on the Billboard charts ), the Swedish guitarist Yngwie Malmsteen. It was published in March 1988. Even with the third singer in four albums, Joe Lynn Turner ( Rainbow 1980-1983 by, 1989-1992 Deep Purple ), Malmsteen Heaven Tonight succeed with one of his radiokompatibelsten songs ever.

The twelve songs on the album are a part of progressive rock and heavy metal influences of the 1970s, on the other hand, the album sounds after 80s Melodic Hardrock. Stylistically, the album by the ex - Rainow singer Joe Lynn Turner caused by Malmsteen and strong influence from Ritchie Blackmore after the 1981 to 1986 (also with Joe Lynn Turner) published Rainbow albums, and Russ Ballard, whose song Since You've Been Gone Malmsteen coverte with Alctrazz. Bob Daisley, incidentally, was also bassist in Rainbow.

The album contains three instrumentals:

  • Bite the Bullet, which is a short intro to Riot In the Dungeons.
  • Memories, the outro of the entire album. This little acoustic instrumental is from the intro of the 1980 demo "Black Magic Suite".
  • Krakatoa, a six minute long song that contains many themes that are used by Malmsteen at concerts in the " Trilogy Suite Op.5 ". Krakatoa comes in part the song from the 1980 demo "Black Magic Suite".

The uptempo track Rising Force contains a solo part, which is already included in the demo from 1980 on the song " Merlin 's Castle ". The rhythm parts come in part from the song " Voodoo Nights", which was also on this demo. " Rising Force " is the only song on the album, which he constantly plays at concerts. The Yngwie Malmsteen Tribute album "A Guitar Odyssey: Tribute to Yngwie Malmsteen " from 2001 's " Rising Force " is the only song which was covered by this album. The band which pays tribute to the Tribute Evergrey from Sweden.

Malmsteen's statements after he is least satisfied with the " Odyssey ", as it was not produced as a single slice of him alone.

The album " Odyssey " is one of the two solo albums by Yngwie Malmsteen, which are mentioned repeatedly as a representation of his style next to the first album " Rising Force ". Only the Alcatrazz album "No Parole from Rock ' n' Roll" is also not mentioned.

The album Odyssey was transcribed by Joff Jones for guitar. This means that the vocal line are only available in notes and text, and all guitar in notation and tablature.
