Olsztyn, Silesian Voivodeship
Olsztyn is a village and seat of the rural community in Poland in the Silesian Voivodeship in powiat częstochowski.
Geography
Olsztyn is located 10 kilometers southeast of the county town of Częstochowa and 200 km south-west of Warsaw in the Krakow -Czestochowa Jura, in the historical region of Little Poland.
History
The city was chartered in 1488 by the Polish king Kazimierz Olsztyn Jagiellończyk. Olsztyn it but lost in 1870 under Russian administration.
In the years 1975-1998 the town was part of the Voivodeship Częstochowa.
Attractions
Olsztyn is known for its castle ruins on a limestone rock from the 14th century. The castle was first mentioned in 1306 and destroyed during the Second Northern War in 1656 by Swedish troops. Today it is a popular tourist destination and a station of the eagle's nest - cultural path ( Szlak Orlich Gniazd ).
