Omar Rodríguez-López

Omar Alfredo Rodriguez Lopez ( born September 1, 1975 in Bayamón, Puerto Rico) is an American guitarist, composer, music producer and film director.

Life

Music career

His musical career began as a bass guitarist and later at the post - hardcore band At the Drive - In. After its dissolution in 2001, he founded with his longtime friend and bandmate Cedric Bixler - Zavala, the prog-rock band The Mars Volta, whose first album, De - loused in the Comatorium (2003 ) due to the versatile amalgamation of various genres from the press and the listener enthusiastic responses elicited. The Mars Volta broke up in 2013. However, Rodriguez -Lopez is also very active as a soloist. So far more than 20 solo albums have appeared in which various guests such as John Frusciante, Damo Suzuki and Jeremy Ward involved. Since 2012 he is also working on a new project called Bosnian Rainbows, whose first album was released on 28 June 2013.

As the cornerstone of his musical creativity may be called progressive rock, jazz and even salsa. His favorite guitar is his signature guitar, an Ibanez ORM1 ( left-handed version).

Directing career

In 2011 he turned as a composer, director, film producer and actor of the drama film The Sentimental Engine Slayer, which Film Festival premiered at the Tribeca. 2012 was followed by the romantic comedy Los Chidos, which he presented at the South by Southwest Film Festival. In the late autumn of 2012 his third drama El Divino Influjo de los Secretos follows.
