Opponitz is a municipality with 965 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the district of Amstetten in Lower Austria. Center of the municipality is the village Hauslehen.

Geography
Opponitz is located on the Ybbs in Lower Austria's wine district Eisenwurzen. 72.52 percent of the area of the municipality is forested.
Community structure
The municipality consists of the four Opponitz Katastralgemeinden:
- Ofenberg (2.31 km ²)
- Opponitz ( 20.08 km ²)
- Schwarzenbach ( 8.19 km ²)
- Thann ( 9.08 km ²)

The main town of the municipality consists of the village Opponitz (formerly Hauslehen 47.877514.823611111111422 ⊙ ) and the surrounding scattered settlement Hauslehen - Scattered houses ( ⊙ 47.87583333333314.827777777778460 ). Also include the individual layer Glatz Reith, Hinterleithen, Upper Point, Pichl, and front Leithen to this location.
History
In ancient times, the area was part of the province of Noricum. The place name Opponitz suggests a Slavic settlement. In Passau Urbar the place 1256 as " Opotnitz " was first mentioned. In the core Austrian state of Lower Austria lying the place told the eventful history of Austria.
Between 1922 and 1924 the power plant was built in Opponitz Schwarzenbach district of the city of Vienna.
Population Development
According to the results of the 2001 census, there were 957 inhabitants. In 1991 the municipality had 1,031 inhabitants in 1981 and 1,006 in 1971, 1,006 inhabitants.
Policy
The council has 15 seats, mayor of the municipality is Leopold Hofbauer, Office Manager, Friedrich Misof.
In the municipal elections of 2005, the ÖVP and the SPÖ reached 7 8 mandates. In the municipal elections in 2010, the seat ratios did not change.

For tourists Opponitz is known as "fishing village" and especially fly-fishing popular.
