Orange County Museum of Art

The Orange County Museum of Art ( OCMA ) is an art museum in Newport Beach in the U.S. state of California. The existing facility is located since 1918 in the business district Newport Center in Corona del Mar. district

The museum exhibits mainly the works of contemporary and modern art. The collection includes approximately 3,000 units, representing a cross-section of the California art from the early 20th century to the present annually ranks the OCMA around 60,000 visitors.

History

The Orange County Museum of Art opened in 1918 under the name Laguna Beach Art Association. The three branch offices in Newport Beach, Laguna Beach and Costa Mesa grew rapidly and gained national attention. The California Biennial was launched in 1984. The museum has organized this among other exhibitions of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and the Renaissance Society. Its present name took to the Orange County Museum of Art in 1996.

The OCMA has mainly exhibited works of contemporary art over time. It also included the first studies of Vija Celmins (1980 ), Chris Burden (1988) and Tony Cragg (1990). Furthermore found significant exhibitions of works by Lari Pittman (1983 ), Günther Förg (1989 ), Charles Ray (1990 ), Guillermo Kuitca (1992 ), Bill Viola ( 1997), Inigo Manglano - Ovalle (2003 ), Catherine Opie ( 2006) and Mary Heilmann (2007) instead. Collection
