Oravská Jasenica
Orava Jasenica ( until 1949 slovak " Jasenica "; Jasenitz German, Hungarian Jaszenica ) is a municipality in the north of Slovakia with 1737 inhabitants ( 31 December 2011) and belongs to Okres Námestovo, kraj a circle of Žilinský.
Geography
The municipality is located in the pelvis Orava kotlina at the confluence of the Biela Orava Veselianka with, shortly before it flows into the Orava reservoir. In the environment, the mountains and highlands Podbeskydská Orava Magura raise. The center is located at an altitude of 630 m nm and is located four kilometers from Námestovo, and 17 kilometers from Tvrdošín.
History
Orava Jasenica originated in the 16th century Wallachian colonization on the territory of the Orava Castle and was first mentioned in writing in 1588. The population engaged in linen weaving, trade with linen and agriculture. In the plague of 1739-42 335 people lost their lives; only 30 inhabitants survived. Thus, the village had to be resettled by resettlement from neighboring towns. 1828 are listed 116 houses and 1,039 inhabitants.
In a fire in 1957, a large part of the village burned down, so that today very few wooden houses are available.
