Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States

The Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (English: Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States, OECS short ) is a supranational confederation.

Objectives

  • Cooperation at regional and international levels
  • Unit between the Member States
  • Defense of sovereignty, the inviolability of the territory, including the independence
  • Unification of the foreign policies of the Member States
  • Economic reunification between Member States

The States of the OECS have with the East Caribbean Dollar a common currency, except the British Virgin Islands - there is since 1959 the U.S. dollar is the official currency. The East Caribbean dollar is pegged to the U.S. dollar since 1976 at the rate of U.S. $ 1 = EC $ 2.70.
