Orient Heights (MBTA-Station)

Orient Heights is a metro station of the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority ( MBTA ) in Boston's South Boston, Massachusetts in the United States. It provides access to the Blue Line.

History

The Boston, Revere Beach and Lynn Railroad entertained as early as 1875 on their track a station Orient Heights, however, the operation was discontinued in 1940, and the Metropolitan Transit Authority took over the legal predecessor to the MBTA rail tracks, and associated structures.

The current station was opened on January 5, 1952 together with the stations and Wood Iceland Airport as part of the northern extension of the East Boston tunnel. Until the opening of the subsequent station Suffolk Downs on April 21, 1952, Orient Heights terminus of the Blue Line.

Due to the increasingly stronger decay of the building structure a comprehensive renovation project with a budget of 51 million dollars for the building was begun in 2012, its term was for two years and a complete new foresaw.
