The Þórisjökull ( Þórisjökull ) is a glacier and volcano panel in western Iceland in the municipality of Borgarbyggð and Grímsnes above Grafningur. It reaches an altitude of 1350 meters.

Location

The glacier volcano is located between the Langjökull the east and the highly visible shield volcano Ok in the West.

Volcano

It is a glaciated volcano panel from the last ice age, which consists largely of palagonite. Originally, the glacier was probably to the 18th century part of the great glacier shield Langjökull.

Recent studies clearly show that the glacier is part of the volcanic system of Prestahnúkur and active column systems are under him.

Name

Its name comes from the Troll Thori ( from the saga Grettis ) ago.

Proximity to highland road Kaldidalur

The highland road Kaldidalur runs through the valley between the Ok and the Þórisjökull. The glacier is located in the east of the runway, which runs through a whole lot to him.

Mountaineering

From the pass at 720 meters at the cairns Beinakerlingin you can go up to the glacier.
