Osek (Teplice District)

Osek ( German Ossegg ) is a city in the Czech Republic. It belongs to Okres Teplice nad Labem Region of the North Bohemian Region and is situated on the southern slopes of the Ore Mountains. The municipal area extends north to the bed leak on the German border.

History

Osek is mainly known by the Cistercian Monastery Osek and the Monastery Church of the Assumption. The center of the present city was built on the territory of the historic old town. The actual settlement from the 12th century stood at the foot of the Erzgebirge, on an old trade route, a trail of Bohemia Bohemian on Bílina to Saxony, now called the Old Salt Road. Located northwest of the monastery is the former castle Rýzmburk protection.

Additional points of interest

  • The Baroque parish church of St. Peter and Paul was built in 1714 by Octavio Broggio.
  • A monument on the road to Loučná reminiscent of the mining disaster of 3 January 1934 in which 142 miners died in a coal dust explosion at the mine Nelson III.
  • In the district of Hrad Osek (Giant Mountains ) are the ruins of the castle Rýzmburk, whose foundation is to go back to the rule of Ottokar II.

City ​​Arms

The green, lower field of the coat of arms symbolizes the pastures of the environment and the silver field stands for the former silver and tin mining. In the upper strip left field recalls the Abtsstab to the important monastery, the right panel shows the coat of arms of the tribe of Hrabischitz, Ossegg of Giant Castle and Kostka Postupic, an upright rake with seven tines. The Czech word " Hrabe " means rake and gave the name of this Uradelsgeschlecht in Bohemia as the " carrier of the emblem with the rake ." The mean fields with an oak tree and the hammer and chisel point to the wealth of forests and mining in the vicinity of the place.

The municipality is divided into the Katastralbezirke Dlouhá Louka, Hrad Osek Hrdlovka - Nový Dvůr Mackov, Nová Ves u Oseka and Osek u Duchcova.
