Oshawa

Oshawa [ ɑʃəwə ] is a city in Canada. It lies in the southeastern part of the province of Ontario and is adjacent to Lake Ontario. Oshawa currently counts ( 2011 Census, Statistics Canada ) 149 607 inhabitants, the city covers an area of ​​145.68 km ².

The City of Oshawa forms with its immediate surroundings a so-called census metropolitan area ( metropolitan area ), since in their compaction area live more than 100,000 inhabitants. The metropolitan area counted a total of 356 177 inhabitants in 2011. History

Oshawa was founded in 1850 and had at this time an estimated 2,000 inhabitants. Nearly 100 years earlier - around 1760 - there had been the first French settlement patterns, this served as a base for the fur trade. 1879 Oshawa had about 4,000 inhabitants and became the city (town ).
