Locations

Historically, the profile locations as follows:

In Lemgo are the departments 2 ( media production ), 4 (Life Science Technologies ), 5 ( Electrical Engineering and computer science ), 6 (mechanical engineering and mechatronics) and 7 (production and economy). Here you can find most courses of a site and the two research institutes of the university.

Detmold houses the departments 1 ( Detmold School of Architecture and Interior Design ) and 3 ( Civil Engineering ), thereby demonstrating a clear focus on the construction industry.

Hoexter focuses with the departments of 8 ( Environmental Engineering and Applied computer science ) and 9 (Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning ) on technical environmental and landscaping topics. Moreover, it is possible to study computer science applied to the study of economic computer science / IT Business Systems.

As part of the expansion of technical colleges in NRW the study Warburg was established in 2009. Here engineering courses are offered, which can be studied on the one hand at the college and on the other hand dual, ie, in cooperation with a company. It is in Warburg taught in two semesters, the theoretical knowledge base, which is deepened in subsequent semesters in Lemgo.

Research

At the Hochschule OWL research is conducted in various fields, in particular in the field of information technology in networked technical systems (Industrial IT) and food safety. These two areas have been promoted as a competence profile platforms from NRW. For these platforms competence in late 2006, the Institute of Industrial Information Technology (abbreviated inIT ) and the beginning of 2011 the first in NRW Research Institute of Food Technology ( ILT short -NRW ) emerged.

The Department of Electrical Engineering and computer science of the University OWL is one of the strongest research departments at colleges in Germany .. Individual professors of the university have, unlike other frequently at colleges usual, a large staff research associate and therefore to a greater extent externally funded research perform .. the electrical part of the CHE Ranking 2013/2014 of the top three courses in Germany. As part of a public-private partnership, Centrum Industrial IT ( CIIT ) was established in 2010 on the campus in Lemgo. The CIIT is a research and development center, which is to make information and communication technologies for Intelligent Automation usable. For testing and demonstration of new automation solutions Lemgoer model factory was set up as an experimental field in CIIT.

In early October 2009, the Fraunhofer Competence Center Industrial Automation was founded, which is also located in the CIIT. In early 2012 it was expanded for the first Fraunhofer Application Center in cooperation with a university in Germany.

The CIIT with the University Institute inIT and the Fraunhofer Application Center Industrial Automation is one of the three regional power centers of the BMBF - Edge Cluster " Intelligent Technical Systems of East Westphalia -Lippe (its OWL) " which prevailed in the third round of funding in early 2012.

Promotion possibility

In June 2011, between the computer science at the University of Paderborn and the Institute for Industrial Information Technology ( inIT ) of the University OWL was an agreement for the implementation of cooperative assistance promotions closed. In April 2013 was established as a joint scientific establishment of the Institute of Industrial Information Technology ( inIT ) and the University of Paderborn international PhD program " Intelligent Systems in Automation" (ISA). Here Fellows are each a professor of inIT and a professor at the University of Paderborn with a topic in the field of intelligent automation structured led to the promotion.

Rankings

In the CHE Ranking 2010 electrical engineering was one of the strongest research programs in Germany and in the CHE Ranking 2013/2014 of the top three courses in Germany.

History

Already in the 1920s and 1930s there was in Lemgo an engineering school, which was closed in 1938 because most students and faculty changed the Wehrmacht. During the start-up state engineering schools on October 1 In 1964 " National Engineering School of Mechanical Engineering Lemgo " on their operation with 36 students of mechanical engineering. This State School of Engineering should replace the private engineering school location. The accommodation was first in the lime house and at school in Real Street. The second department mechanical engineering manufacturing technology was on October 1, established in 1965, today the Department 7 " production and business" and on 1 April 1966 as a third division, the specialty " Electrical Engineering ", now the Department 5 " Electrical Engineering and computer science " the National Engineering School of Mechanical Engineering Lemgo was then with its three departments part which was founded on August 1, 1971 " Fachhochschule Lippe "based in Lemgo.

In the course of high school reform in North Rhine -Westphalia and the consequential abolition of the comprehensive universities was January 1, 2002, the Department Hoexter University - Polytechnic Paderborn was part of the university, which has since " Fachhochschule Lippe and Hoexter " (FH LuH ) and had three locations: Lemgo, Detmold, Hoexter. 2007, the Senate approved the name change to " University of East Westphalia -Lippe " with effect from 1 January 2008. This was justified by the width of the courses on offer and the resulting fading specialization as well as a commitment to the region.
