Ottar Gjermundshaug

Ottar Gjermundshaug ( born January 23, 1925 in Alvdal, † April 10, 1963 ) was a Norwegian skier who was active in cross-country skiing and Nordic combined.

Career

Gjermundshaug, who started for the club of his birthplace Alvdal IL, achieved his first success in the Norwegian Championship 1946 in Drammen. There he won in a single combination of the title before Eilert Dahl and Magne Gjermundshaug. After he landed in the following year only to fourth, he won the silver medal at the championships in 1948 in Lillehammer. Another year later at the Norwegian Championship 1949 in Steinkjer he first won the title in cross-country skiing over 18 km. In the combination, he never got beyond the bronze medal.

In the Nordic World Ski Championships 1950 in Lake Placid, he won the silver medal in the singles of the combination. A little later he started in Asker and Bærum at the Norwegian Championships in 1950 and won in the combination there his second national title. In cross-country skiing he came to the second place and won silver. The following year he finished second in the combination only fifth.

At the Olympic Winter Games in Oslo in 1952, he raced in both disciplines. In cross-country skiing over 18 km, it was at the end of 12 before he landed in the combination on the sixth. A little later, at the Norwegian Championships 1952 in Porsgrunn and Eidsvoll he still won one silver medal in the combination.
